Liverpool Basketball Club - 18th February

It was a double blow at the weekend for Liverpool Basketball Club’s Senior Mens team when they played two games in two days without securing a victory.

The first game was away to Bristol and due to various reasons, the team only managed to take a much reduced side. Liverpool went down to 4 points at the end of the first quarter, but a poor second quarter gave Bristol a 15 points advantage at half time, Bristol 40 – Liverpool 25. Liverpool continued to struggle during the 3rd quarter and despite a fight back in the final 10 minutes, scoring 19 points to Bristol’s 13, the overall deficit was too much and Bristol eventually ran out winners, Bristol 77 – Liverpool 56. Top scorers for Liverpool were Chiz Onuora on 19 points and Paul Parry Jnr on 14.

Liverpool’s second game was a home to Taunton Tigers, currently 4th in the league. Despite a poor start in the game, Liverpool came back from a 16 – 20 first quarter to take the second quarter 18 points to 12, giving Liverpool a small but important 2 point advantage at half time, Liverpool 34 – Taunton 32. With only 2 points separating the two teams in the 3rd quarter it was 46 points apiece with a final 10 minutes to go. Liverpool fought hard to overcome the quickness of Taunton and despite putting up as many shots as Taunton, the ball never seemed to want to go into the basket for Liverpool, scoring 10 points to Taunton’s 19, Liverpool seen the game disappear before their very eyes, giving Taunton a 9 point victory. Final result Liverpool 56 – Taunton 65. Top scorers for Liverpool were Aaron Esskeli on 14 points and Paul Parry Snr on 12 points.

Liverpool travel north to Northumbria next weekend in the quest to look for victory, whilst the U18 and U16’s take the shorter route to Bradford.

It was a disappointing weekend for Liverpool Basketball Club, with all 3 teams losing their respective games in the Senior Men, U18 and U16 national basketball league. The Senior Men losing to Plymouth, the U18 losing to Bury and the U16 finding the going tough against Tameside.

The Senior Men took the long road to Plymouth to take on Plymouth Raiders and it was an even longer road coming home. Liverpool found the press put on by Plymouth in the first quarter difficult to break down and only managed to score 12 points to Plymouth’s 28 points. However, Liverpool managed to claw their way back into the game in the second quarter and were only 9 points down at half time 41 points to Liverpool’s 32. During the 3rd quarter Liverpool lost one of their main players through injury and lost the momentum of the game, losing the 3rd quarter and finding it difficult to make the plays work, Liverpool ran out of time and energy to Plymouth. Final result Plymouth 90 – Liverpool 67.

Liverpool ‘s U18 side took on Bury Blue Devils in their game and despite being 12 points up at half time, Liverpool 38 – Bury 26. Liverpool lost the game in the 3rd quarter scoring 6 points to Bury’s 17, therefore Liverpool only retaining the lead by 1 point. It was basket for basket in the final 10 mins and in the final seconds of the game Bury pipped Liverpool to the post by just one final basket, giving Bury victory by 1 point. Final result Liverpool 61 – Bury 62. Top scorers for Liverpool were Raheem May-Thompson on 17 points and James Bradshaw on 14.

With basket for basket in the 3rd quarter, the final 10 mins belonged to Tameside with an overall victory by 25 points. Final result Liverpool 72 – Tameside 97. Top scorers for Liverpool were Raheem May-Thompson on 32 points and James Bradshaw on 21.

Liverpool Basketball Club - 21 January 2007

It was a disappointing start to 2007 with Liverpool’s Senior Mens first home defeat of the new year to Kent Crusaders by 19 points, but the score did not reflect the game. Liverpool trailed by 12 points at half time, Liverpool 36 – Kent 48. However, Liverpool slowly but surely crept back in to the game and by the 8 minute of the 3rd quarter trailed by only 3 points.

A surge of shots from Kent pulled them away and by the end of the 3rd quarter were in the lead by 9 points. Liverpool lost concentration in the final quarter and failed to score during the first 5 minutes which allowed Kent to take control of the game and victory at the final whistle. Final result Liverpool 63 – Kent 82. Top scorers for Liverpool were Bartzose Zaremiski on 14 and Chiz Onurora on 10.

It was a different game for the U16 when they played local rivals Sefton. Making light work of the game, Liverpool cruised to a 54 – 22 advantage by half time. Liverpool’s defence only allowed Sefton to score 2 baskets in the 3rd quarter while they enjoyed scoring 23 points. The final 10 mins was a mere formality and Liverpool cruised to a 90 points to 36 victory. Top scorers for Liverpool were Raheem May-Thompson on 27 points and Jamie Gargill on 18.

The Senior Men travel south to Plymouth next weekend, whilst the U18 and U16 are at home to Bury (U18’s) and Tameside (U16’s) both games take place at Archbishop Beck School and tip off is at 12.15 for the U18 game and 2.15 for the U16 game.
