U11 Div 1 Rope & Anchor 3-5 Culcheth

Rope got off to a flyer again today as they have week after week with Adam Boujubar winning a great tackle to play in Niall Ford who picked his spot superbly with his left foot and placed the ball into the far corner 1-0. Unfortunately as has become the habit the Rope boys then sat back and allowed their opponents to come forward and Culcheth made them pay with a swift break down the left and a superb strike which beat the keeper at his near post 1-1.Soon it was Culcheth ahead as a long ball out of defence over the top of the Rope's defence saw a striker clean through and his shot found the top of the net 1-2. Amazingly Culcheth made it 3 as Rope slept and a rebounded shot came back off the crossbar only for a Culcheth player to be first to react and score from close in 1-3. The game was wide open and Rope replied with a bit of good fortune as a cross from the right was deflected off a Culcheth defender for an OG. 2-3. Culcheth had their moment of luck as Rope repaid the favour with an OG from a free kick which was flicked on by the defence into the Rope net HT 2-4 Culcheth started the second half on the front foot and another ball over the top left the defence floundering, although this time the striker was a good 2 yards offside. The ref put whistle to mouth but failed to muster enough puff to blow it and the result was a smart finish 2-5. Rope threw everything forward in desperation and Cameron Geering showed the commitment that had been lacking from the Rope strikers as he scored at the second attempt after the ball had come back off the bar. FT 3-5 If we deal with some of the decisions first - referees are not always going to get them right and today there were plenty that were wrong; That said, there can be no doubt that the better side won today- Culcheth simply wanted it more and worked as a team. Rope were really awful and look like a team that is heading for mid table at best- a collection of really good players who want to play for themselves and not for each other.Steve Kennedy
