U11 Div1 Rope & Anchor 9-1 Seneley & Garswood

After last week's defeat at Woolston, Rope had a point to prove. Again they were forced to reshuffle with Tom Weeder still injured and Keenan Quansah stepping into defence. Rope got off to a flyer with Adam Boujibar getting on the end of a corner to steer the ball into the corner 1-0. A lovely flowing move between Keenan and Niall saw Tom Corless played in and he outpaced the defence and fired across the face of goal, the ball ending up in the far side of the net 2-0. Adam nearly made it 3 as another corner found him in space- this time his volley was just wide. Jud Thorniley then shot from long range, the ball beating the keeper and apparently crossing the line, only for the keeper to scoop it out. No way the ref could have been certain- no goal. More Rope pressure with Woodsey playing in Regan who somehow lifted the ball over the keeper at the near post and the ball went in off the crossbar. 3-0. Woodsey continued to impress on the left and this time he found himself free, cut in and lifted the ball over the keeper who was just off his line 4-0. It was nearly 5 as Jordan Freaney was unlucky to see his effort cleared by a great header and away for a corner. From the resulting corner, Adam was first to react as the ball bounced around and forced it home HT 5-0 The second half continued with Rope still going forward, at times too attacking and losing shape but still producing some great football. Matthew Kennedy was quick to spot Tom Corless free and launched a long ball towards him- Tom superbly rounding the keeper to make it 6-0. Cameron Geering came on and was immediately imvolved as a lovely through ball saw him one on one with the keeper- he side stepped the keeper leaving him on the floor and as the ball trickled goalwards he dived to the ground to add his head (I think it must be an extra £1 off his dad for headers!). Jud Thorniley deservedly got on the score sheet as he let fly a shot which the keeper couldn't hold 8-0. Senelely were unlucky with Rope's next attack as a defender trying hard to clear the danger could only manage to poke it into his own net 9-0. With the game virtually over, Rope were caught out by a Seneley break- the attackers looking marginally offside but being allowed to play on and their striker producing a great finish to smash one home off the underside of the bar. FT 9-1 A big improvement by Rope but still lots of work to do if the are to keep pushing the top sides.
