U11 Div 1 Seneley & Garswood 2-6 Rope & Anchor

Seneley & Garswood played host to a Woolston side for the second time in 2 weeks, looking to improve on last weeks 1-6 defeat. They actually started the brighter and some sloppy Rope defending gave the home side two early chances which were both hit wide of the target. Having survived an early scare, Rope turned up the gas and produced an absolutely devastating 12 minute spell which saw them lead 0-4 in double quick time. First a throw in was well headed on by Keenan Quansah into the path of Regan Foy who never fails in the 1 on 1 situations and again he slotted the ball expertly into the corner of the net. 0-1 The score was soon doubled as a Regan shot was well parried away by the keeper and the ball smashed with real venom by Jud Thorniley from at least 25 yards giving the keeper no chance 0-2. Jud Thorniley was involved in everything and he started the Rope's next attack by breaking up a Seneley & Garswood attack and played in a lovely ball for Niall Ford who celebtrated his birthday by outpacing the defence and finding the bottom corner 0-3. Another attack and another goal as a corner was met by Jud Thorniley (who else?) to head home. An absolutely devastating spell of football- not just 4 goals but some great passing and movement. Unfortunately as we have seen before, the Rope boys decided the game was won and took their foot off the gas. Rope still had chances and Tom Corless' pace was a constant threat as first he ran free and was denied but a good save by the keeper using his feet and his next effort smacking the crossbar. Not be denied- Tom found it was third time lucky as a ball into the danger area was missed by a player from both sides and free to Tom who buried it into the corner of the net 0-5 Seneley responded with a quick goal as a challenge in the Rope's half broke for an unmarked striker to curl superbly past the advancing keeper 1-5. Seneley almost had a second as a low cross was cut out by Rope defender Jordan Freaney who managed to play the ball off his own post and away from danger. HT 1-5 Seneley started the second half brightly and when two Rope players tackled each other a Seneley striker was free on goal but only managed to hit the ball over the bar. Jud Thorniley continued his search for his hat trick and was unlucky to see a superb effort come back off the angle of post and bar. Seneley then benefitted from some sloppy Rope defending at a corner as the kick went straight in without anyone even getting close to a touch 2-5. The last goal of the game saw Cameron Geering battling well to win the ball and play in a great ball for Regan Foy to run on to at pace and slip past the keeper FT 2-6 Second defeat on the bounce for Seenely & Garswood and they are clearly seeing how much more difficult it is in the top division. They gave a good account of themselves today and apart from a 12 minute Rope blitz, the game was pretty well even. They created a few chances and battled hard- thankfully they won't come up against a player like Jud Thorniley every week. For Rope it is another 3 points and they are yet to play at home. At times absolutely superb but it is really frustrating to see some of the stuff they serve up at times when you know how good they are. Jud Thorniley was at the centre of everything again but MOTM went to Tom Weeder who went about his defensive duties quietly and effectively and gave Rope some real bite at the back. Good performances also from Keenan who covered every blade of grass and Tom Corless who scared the home side to death with his pace. It will be all hands to the pump next week when Rope play their 3rd away game on the bounce at Appleton.
