U10s Cup Semi. Rope 0-0 Fife (Rope win 4-3 on penalties)

A great occasion for all involved and the tension all too obvious but the players of both sides put in a great effort in very warm conditions. Rope bossed the first half and the play was mainly towards the Fife goal but some solid defending and good goalkeeping and a slice of luck as Jud Thorniley rattled the post, kept the score at 0-0 at half time. The second half saw a more even game with Fife beginning to push forward and Rope on the back foot for the first time. Still Rope had the better chances but it was a day when defences were on top. With minutes to go and Rope looking for a deserved winner, Fife broke in numbers and 2 players went clean through on Rope's goal, only to see Callum Spencer come flying out of goal to save bravely at feet. It would have been harsh on the Rope to have conceded after their efforts and the game ended predictably 0-0. Penalties saw Rope fire one over but the rest were scored and with Fife hitting one wide and one against the post the game was over. Rope won 4-3. After 3 hard fought games this season, the sides could not be seperated- all 3 games ending in a draw and only the lottery that is the penalty shoot out could give us a winner. Commiserations to Fife- they played their part in a great semi final. Congratulations to Rope.. a great achievement.Steve Kennedy
