The 2-0 final score does litle justice to Appleton who made N-le-W struggle for the victory, N-le-W came into this game on a good run having beaten Haydock away the previous week and knocking D5 league winners Garswood out of the cup with an 8-1 victory.
Both teams failed to create any real chances in the first half, N-le-W took the lead early in the second half with a goal from Jake Swift but failed to put 2 easy chances away soon after.
Appleton began to put N-le-W under pressure and unlucky not to force an equaliser, especialy when they created so much panic in the N-le-W defence that N-le-W almost conceded an own goal, it was all on full time when Jake Battersby pounced to score the second goal and secure the game.
Referee R Scofield was first class in his handling of the game, great to see how he encouraged and praised the kids during the game.
