U10s Cup Fife B 0-2 Rope

Fife B welcomed Rope in their quarter final clash on Saturday. League position made Rope favourites but Fife were not ready to give way and put in a dogged hardworking performance. Rope dominated possesion but never really used it and Fife looked comfortable against their division 1 opponents without really threatening either. As in previous weeks, the Rope boys looked like they had been out celebrating before the game- not a lot of effort or energy wasted and tackling something of a rarity. Rope opened the scoring with David Alcock getting his head to a floated cross, the ball going over the line just before the keeper scooped it away. 0-1 And that was the end of any excitement in the first half. The second half was much the same, Rope sloppy and Fife unable to penetrate a solid Rope backline. The conditions helped with Rope's second goal as a Jud Thorniley lofted attempt caught in the wind and deceived the unlucky keeper. 0-2. The most entertaining moment of the match was the arrival of 2 stray dogs who wandered onto the pitch. They showed some great footwork but eventually gave in to the fleet footed referee who saw them off. FT 0-2. Hard luck to Fife- they showed great commitment to the cause but found Rope just too strong. Congratulations to Rope- a win is a win this late in the cup but if they play this badly again they won't make it past the semis. Steve Kennedy
