Under 10's Div 3 Haydock 1 - 2 Newton-le-Willows

N-le-W became the first team to complete the double over Haydck this season and well deserved their vicory in a great clean game played by both sides.

N-le-W started the game well but conceeded a free kick 15 yards out from their goal after 10 minutes, Haydock struck a superb free kick to open the scoring and take a 1 - 0 lead, for the next few minutes Haydock applied the pressure and N-le-W started to show signs of their lack of games and training over the previous 2 weeks.

N-le-W dug deep and showed their character by taking the fight to Haydock and equalising close to half time through a well taken goal from a set piece from the right hand touch line.

The second half started well with both teams playing good football, on 2 or 3 occasions Haydock threatened to break through early but found the whole N-le-W team commited to defending their goal.

Midway through the second half N-le-W started to apply pressure and were well rewarded with a superbly struck goal by Jake Swift, Haydock fought hard to get back in the game but met a N-le-W side resolved to take the fight to Haydock rather than sit on a 1 goal lead.

Man of the match for N-le-W was Lewis Bates who had a superb game with an exceptional work rate in attack and defence

The game was a credit to junior football with very few minor fouls and well controlled by the referee who was fair and firm.
