U10s Div 1 Rope 2-0 Matthiola

Rope started as firm favourites in this one as for the second time this season Matthiola turned up a man short. Last time Matthiola played defensively in a damage limitation excercise. This time they were ready to give the Rope problems all over the pitch and they showed real attacking intent. The only time the visitors looked a man short was at kick off when they took their positions. During play they were the busier, and to a man they ran their legs off to ensure that the extra man advantage was minimal.

The first half saw both sides struggling to put together a decent move- Matthiola for the fact that they were a man light, Rope because they decided that the game was already won and they showed a lazy, disinterested and casual approach to the whole affair. The only Rope player to reach his usual high standard was Jud Thorniley who chased and harried for the full 40 minutes and he was the only difference between the two sides. Players from both sides struggled with the surface which was the worst it has been this season. A first half goal by Regan Foy and a second half goal for the outstanding Jud Thorniley were the only incidents of note.

The points go to Rope (and at this time of the season they are all welcome) but the honours go to the 6 boys in orange shirts who battled their hearts out today- an absolute credit to their club, manager and parents.
