The U18s took the short trip to North Wales to take on Newi Nets. The first quarter seen Liverpool take a 19 – 16 point advantage and extended their lead to 38 points to Newi Netss 27 by half time. The third quarter seen Newi Nets fight back into the game and brought the score to within 4 points by the end of this quarter, leaving Liverpool with a slight advantage of 4 points. Liverpool managed to retain this 4 points advantage until the final whistle and took the game by the close margin, final result Newi Nets 50 – Liverpool 54. Top scorers for Liverpool were Sean Denny on 17 points and Tom Conley on 14. The U16’s took on Barrow in their league fixture, a close game throughout seen both teams take the lead and by half time, only 1 point separate both sides with Barrow taking the 1 point advantage. The third quarter seen both sides score 20 points and it was only in the last minute of the final quarter that Barrow pulled ahead, scoring 4 points with reply from Liverpool. Barrow took the game by 5 points overall, final result Liverpool 66 – Barrow 71. Top scores for Liverpool were Raheem May-Thompson on 21 points closely followed behind by James Bradshaw on 16. The game of the weekend has to be Liverpool Basketball Club’s youngest squad, the U13’s, through to the 1st round of the Playoffs, Liverpool were drawn against the very experienced side Northants. However, Liverpool were not deterred and played an outstanding game. Liverpool took the first quarter by 25 points to 12 and went from strength to strength. Liverpool dominated the boards in defence and after an all round team effort were in the lead at half time by 26 points, Liverpool 48 – Northants 22. The third quarter was much closer, with Liverpool scoring 15 points to Northants 19 and Liverpool lost the final quarter by 24 points to 28, however the first half deficit was too much and Liverpool eventually ran out winners by 18 points at the final whistle. Final result Liverpool 87 – Northants 69. Ashley Ugo was top scorer with 40 points, not bad for someone who only started playing basketball 7 months ago and Itmar Dennis scoring 18 points. It was a great achievement for the squad overall and the club now wait to hear who their opponents will be in the next round. |
